Copovidone is a random linear copolymer of N-vinylpyrrolidone and vinyl acetate with a 6:4 ratio of N-vinylpyrrolidone to vinyl acetate. Compared to homopolymers of the same molecular weight as povidone, Copovidone’s vinyl acetate component reduces hydrophilicity and lowers the glass transition temperature (Tg).
As a result, Copovidone is the ideal tablet binder, with exceptional adhesive properties in both wet and dry granulation and direct compression.
It is an excellent direct compression binder due to its spherical, hollow particle shape and strong plasticity.
Furthermore, because Copovidone has a lower Tg, it is a suitable polymer matrix for solid dispersions/solutions by hot-melt extrusion, which improves the solubility of poorly soluble pharmacological actives.
MARK-VIVAPHARM PVP/VA offers
All possible applications are direct compression, dry granulation, wet granulation, hot melt extrusion, and film coating.
Flowability is excellent.
Due to the hollow particle shape, there is a lot of surface area, which improves particle bonding and compressibility.
The glass transition temperature (Tg) is ideal for hot-melt extrusion.
